Memorial Day is not a public holiday in Azerbaijan. However, Azerbaijan does have a similar day of remembrance called Martyrs’ Day, which is observed on March 31st. Martyrs’ Day is a national holiday in Azerbaijan, and it commemorates the victims of the Black January events of 1990, when Soviet troops entered Baku and other cities in Azerbaijan, killing and injuring many civilians.
