World Interfaith Harmony Week, 1-7 February (01 Feb)
Established in 2010 by the United Nations General Assembly, World Interfaith Harmony Week is celebrated annually from February 1st to 7th. It aims to promote harmony between people of different faiths and beliefs, foster understanding and respect for religious diversity, and encourage dialogue and cooperation among different religious communities.
World Interfaith Harmony Week originated from a proposal by King Abdullah II of Jordan, who emphasized the importance of promoting interfaith understanding and cooperation to create a more peaceful and harmonious world. The General Assembly unanimously adopted the resolution to designate the first week of February as World Interfaith Harmony Week, recognizing the need to strengthen the foundations of a culture of peace and tolerance.
During this week, various interfaith events, dialogues, and activities are organized worldwide to promote interfaith cooperation and understanding. These events include interfaith prayer services, discussions on common values and shared principles, workshops on interfaith dialogue, and exhibitions showcasing the beauty and diversity of different faiths.
World Interfaith Harmony Week serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting and appreciating religious diversity, fostering dialogue and cooperation among different faith communities, and working together to build a more inclusive and harmonious world. It encourages people to embrace their own faith while respecting the beliefs of others and to work together to promote peace, understanding, and cooperation.
